If a friend had told me, a few years ago, that their daughter hasn’t spoken to him/her for 2-1/2 half years, I’m pretty sure I would’ve made an assumption of some sort.
Occasionally, I’m asked by someone who, after spending some time with me, and whether or not they know I’m working on UnLabelMe, something along the lines of, “Are you ADD?” or “you must be ADHD,” or some such reference to mental health diagnoses.
For the last few years, I’ve been speaking with people about societal labels, and their impact in all aspects of society. How they breed assumptions, which lead to judgments, separation and polarization.
At this special time when the confluence of so many holidays can fill us with so many feelings and emotions, when transitions abound, I see this period, these segues, as one of “Invitations.”
